The article discusses a tool that helps with the aggregation of InventSum rows with zero quantities in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.
The tool extends the previously mentioned cleanup tool by also cleaning up records with the "Closed" field set to True.
The purpose of this tool is to handle scenarios where there are no more quantities in InventSum for a certain combination of inventory dimensions, but there is still a value.
When using batch numbers, each batch number creates a new record in InventSum. When a batch number is sold, the quantity fields are set to 0, but the financial/physical value field may still show some amount in cases like standard cost revaluation.
Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations determines inventory value based on records in InventSum and, in some cases, Inventory transactions (InventTrans) for reporting inventory values in the past.
The tool identifies InventSum records where there are no more quantities and finds the record for the same item with the same site. It then copies the values from the batch number level to the site level and deletes the original record.
By reducing the number of InventSum records, this tool can have a positive impact on the performance of functions that query this table.
Running inventory value reports will still yield the correct values after using this tool.
