Dynamics 365 Business Central has a feature called Edit in Excel that allows users to make changes to Business Central records in Excel and publish them back.
The feature requires the Business Central add-in to be installed in Excel.
Despite discouragement, accountants in some organizations use Edit in Excel for working on large journals or similar tasks.
The feature loads data through SQL queries and performs insert or update queries when data is updated in Excel.
Usage of Edit in Excel can lead to an increase in Long Running SQL queries, especially when telemetry is enabled.
Select queries often include the SELECT WITH(UPDLOCK) clause to avoid deadlocks when data might be updated concurrently.
Massive use of Edit in Excel can result in performance and locking problems, based on past experiences.
A KQL query can be used to monitor and analyze user usage of Edit in Excel in Dynamics 365 Business Central.
