Production orders in Microsoft D365 F&SC go through stages of creation, estimation, scheduling, release, preparation/picking, starting, reporting progress/completing jobs, reported as finished, quality assessment, put away and ship to order, and ending.
Production orders can be manually created or generated based on demand signals like sales orders or kanbans.
Estimates are made for material and resource consumption, generating inventory transactions for raw materials and receipts for main products.
Scheduling can be done based on operations, individual jobs, or kanbans, providing rough or detailed plans.
Production orders are released when materials are available, and production can begin.
When all materials and resources are staged, production BOM lines are updated to a status of Picked.
Material and resource consumption can be reported against the order when started, including auto consumption or manual allocation.
When a production order is reported as finished, the quantity of finished goods is updated in inventory, and actual costs are calculated.
